So I have been spending the last few weeks doing research on the perfect motherboard to pair with a new Ryzen 5 2600. I had been focusing on the X470’s, primarily because I didin’t want to have to wait on AMD to send me a new cpu to flash the bios update onto one of the older mobo’s (instant gratification of a purchse and all that). One of the sales people at MicroCenter suggested this board as I was eyeballing the Aorus Gaming 5, and after making the spec comparisons, this board offered more than I needed. I was happy to walk out with a better board than I was looking for at a price that shaved off of my budget!Getting it home and set up was a breeze! I have had no issues with it at all! All I can say is, be SURE to update drivers right away! They are all on the MSI website, and Windows 10 doesn’t auto find them so navigate to the window to get them.

I bought it to replace a lackluster B350 Tomahawk board. This board sports a very well thought VRM design, without the bell and whistles of flagship motherboards but with solid thermal performance – it has a couple of big passive heatsinks and doubled up mosfets and inductors. The board also has good clearance for air coolers, good features like the dual M.2 slots (one of them on top of the PCIe slots to allow the ssd to not be enclosed beneath the graphics card heatsink), the inclusion of AC wireless and Bluetooth, a lot of fan headers and a variety of led lighting headers, supporting regular led strips, digital led strips and Corsair specific led products. In the end, a lot of features without the need to break the bank.

I was a few nano meters from getting the Gigabyte Aorus 7 gaming wifi, until I came across this board that had a some pretty good reviews out there. Based on the price to performance of the Pro Carbon and the quality design of the VRM (a wild fin array heat sink not required here) and overall lower temperatures this was a easy choice. Also has an extra 8-pin CPU power connector for future CPU upgrades (Ryzen 3?) or extreme overclocking possibilities. Can’t say I’m crazy about the AMI bios interface, but it is more or less easy to use. The only downside I could find on the board is the placement and or design of the M.2 slot which could overheat, being so close under the video card slot with out adequate case fan ventilation. Seems to do well since I installed an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 1TB and stays around 40C while browsing. I also went with a older style case, the HAF 912 which has a removable hard drive cage for increased air flow which is good for the upgrades I made such as the video card (RX 590) and CPU (Ryzen 7 2700x) that I used for this build. Has solid RGB on the board but not overkill while having support for more lighting if u like a show off build. The Pro Carbon was easy to install and a great board overall!

I didn’t get the Ryzen 1 since I was skeptical for 1st gen of anything so I opt out and went with Ryzen 2.MSI X470 is a great board overall. Their Mystic Light software still needs some work but then again all RGB software in the market is not good either.I do like their new carbon look and love the M.2 shield improvement. The most impressive feature is the Audio Boost which supposedly improves input/output, and it did just that.I can recommend this board to any mid-tier build but that’s about it.

I paired this B450 with a Ryzen 5 3600x CPU. My system has 32 GB of Corsair Vengeance CL 16 2666 Mhz RAM, EVGA 1660TI XC Ultra Graphics Card, 256 gb of SSD for the system and 3tb of HDD as a secondary storage. Initially, I had a Noctua CPU cooler, but something went wrong with it and when I talked to Noctua, they refused to honor the warranty. Therefore, I end up using the original CPU Cooler that the came with. The case is Be Quiet Pure Base 500, so far the best case for the money. It is super quiet and easy for installing the parts. Many of you may say that the Ryzen likes the 3200 or 3600 mhz ram sticks rather than the 2666. To be honest, there was not a noticeable difference when I did the benchmarks, nor anyone can feel the difference in the real world. I initially bought the 3600 Mhz ram for this system, but strangely enough, my Intel based computer did better with the faster memory than this one did with it. So, the 2666 is just fine.To come back to the MSI B450 Carbon Gaming AC and what I like about this board. It comes with an integrated Wi-FI card. Also it comes with a feature that lets you flush the bios without having an old gen Ryzen. Remember, this is not set up to work with Ryzen 3000 right out-of-box. First, you need to flush the bios to the latest one before installing the CPU if you decide to go with Ryzen 3000. Flushing the bios is super easy and fun process, at least to me.This B450 is not a slouch. When I compared my benchmarks to other systems with the same CPU, my scores are right there with much more expensive X570 boards. So, this motherboard will not cut from your performance if you go with a CPU that is Ryzen 3600x or lower. The other features I like about this board is that it has many USB ports, Intel LAN, decent audio, and large VRM sink. What I do not like about it is the BIOS” interface and that the I/O shield is not welded to the board. However, if you have a Ryzen CPU and you think that you can gain a lot by overclocking the CPU, I think that you might be disappointed. I think the auto set-up is pretty good and it is already maxing out the CPU very well. Therefore, the only thing that I changed in the BIOS was to enable the XMP feature of the memory. So, I do not care much about the bios interface.I thought that Gigabyte has a terrible bios, this one is worse. Looking at the VRMs capability, I do not think that this motherboard will be okay with Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9. Anyway, if you have extra coins to spend for Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9, you should buy X570 in mid 200 to 300 dollar. And the final thing that I do not like about this board is that it does not support Gen 4 NVME storage. Some other B450 boards do support it though, but I still think that this board is overall the best B450 motherboard. If you ask whether I would recommend it, the answer is definitely Yes if you are pairing this board to Ryzen 5 3600X, 3600, 2600X, 2600, 1600X, or 1600.

What I like:1. Awesome look and neutral theme, can be used for other color themes due to its rgb.2. Simple and not too flamboyant.3. Great VRM temps as per hardware unboxed reviews.Cons:1. Arrived in “sealed” amazon prime box, but the inside actual box of MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC was already opened.2. Shipping price to Philippines is 40$ more or less.3. Only 1 M.2 Shield.4. Onboard JRGB headers are too spread out, making RGB lighting cables go to all places.5. RGB lighting would have been appreciated if they placed some near the upper left part.I ordered mine via amazon prime, it arrived in 1 week to Philippines from US, but I received the box already opened, luckily, it still works, but its weird to receive it opened, the other parts I ordered via newegg were all sealed, though they arrived 3 weeks.Used in the following build:Case: RAKK HawaniMotherboard: MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon ACRAM: Team Vulcan TUF 2x8GB 3200 MhzCPU: Ryzen 2700xPSU: CoolerMaster MasterWatt 650 TUFCase Fans: 2 sets of RAKK Maris X2GPU: GT 630 -> planning to upgrade to AMDs upcoming GPU

I watched a lot of different YouTube videos regarding this board and also the different Reddit forums talking about the complications they had. i still went ahead and bought it base on the solid recommendations. i have to confess: I was nervous, because after pulling the trigger I read that they where some BIOS issues. I received it and for my surprise, it said it was Ryzen 3000 ready on the box. The problem is that it was an after thought sticker, that in my opinion didn’t looked official. So, I…well… to be sure… still went ahead and updated the BIOS with the most recent one (as of Aug. 30). I was shocked…it worked. But that was the easy part. Then it came the part of assembly. The manual could really be worked. I humbly suggest to color code the different sections for easy and logical understanding of the presented information. This is not my first time building a PC, but if it wasn’t for the fact that MSI has the manual in digital PDF version on their support page, I could have made a mistake. MSI, you added RGB to the Motherboard, add some to the manual.I’m happy with the support on their web page. Make sense, at least for me. The board feels substantial and sturdy. I’m in no way a professional reviewer, but the built quality it quite decent. I feel that they should drop the price on this board a little bit more, since its was a complicated to download the Nahimic Audio Software. If you care for the audio, I’ll tell you: its really good! And if you want to take the full potential of it, download the Nahimic Software from the Windows Store. Don’t bother downloading it from the MSI support page. Save the time. But, while you’re on the MSI support page, do yourself a favor and download their proprietary software for the board. I took a gamble expecting bloatware, I was wrong. It works. The App Manager its a convenient way to keep all of their software organized. The Live Update 6 made it easy to update the drivers after the Windows installation. (I know Windows update the drivers too, but I wanted to play safe). It has a pretty good layout for the fan pins and the RGB its a nice accent. My ideal motherboard would have been this board without the RGB- I don’t need the lights, pass that savings to the consumer MSI. The feature of the motherboards on the capacitors area, the audio, the convenience of the 2 NVMe and the integrated WiFi was my main reasons for my purchase. To finish, i can happily said that after the updates, installing Win10 Pro, running the tests to make sure all is running like a Swiss submariner clock and enabling the XMP profile, my Ryzen 3600 (non X) is running at 4.2 Mhz. Granted, I’m also using a Scythe Ninja 5 CPU Cooler. Its stable, its fast and didn’t break my bank account. This is my first MSi product and I’m a satisfied customer.

Used for an Xubuntu 18.04 install. Expected I’d need to spend hours tweaking the bios and Xubuntu to get everything working well – but I didn’t have to! Everything worked out of the box. I did upgrade to the latest BIOS before doing the Xubuntu install. And I did set the BIOS boot mode to “Legacy+UFEI”, as normal UFEI boot can be a pain for Linux (depending on the board & linux version). RAM was G.Skill Ripjaws V, 2666, 16gb (as spec’d on MSI’s support site for this board). BIOS XMP setting worked great to automagically set the RAM at the proper speed. Super stable board so far. Latest Ubuntu/Xubuntu 18.04 kernel works just fine. The only con I can think of is that the board’s LED lights cannot be controlled significantly from the BIOS – only via a Windows app. So, since I’m running Linux, the LED lights are always doing their default display sequence.

I have been running this mobo for a couple of weeks on my build with a R5 3600x, and everything is working smoothly. The MSI bios is super simple to navigate, and the wifi works flawlessly. The mobo has 2 m.2 slots which is super nice, and also has many rgb pins (including a 5v addressable rgb pin) to easily light up your build. No complaints so far, and would recommend to anyone for a budget gaming build mobo.

I specifically got this motherboard because it had the following features I needed:-Less than $200-TPM slot (for Windows Bitlocker encryption)-Looks good without being overboard-x470 type to future proof a generation or two of upcoming Ryzen releases-Potentially overclockable if I ever wanted to get into thatThis motherboard fit all of these with ease. I only wish its AC companion with wifi hit the sub-$200 requirement, otherwise I would have considered it instead. In any case, I had high hopes for this motherboard, and it has performed well so far.My build:-NZXT H500 case-Ryzen 2700 CPU-Red Dragon RX Vega 56 GPU-ADATA RAM x4 (8GB per stick to total 32GB)-Seasonic Gold 750W PSUInstalling the motherboard was easy into the case, with one concern regarding the CPU Power connectors from the motherboard. This is more of a limitation of the H500 case, but the top of case fan was mildly in the way of the CPU2 connector, needed if you want to overclock your CPU (if you are not overclocking, then you only need to plug in CPU1, or so I’ve read). This was an issue on first boot when there was no life in the machine upon powering on. After I reseated the CPU cables and made sure they were securely inserted, my machine finally powered on.2nd Inconvenience was waiting for the first time boot to finish. The hardware status lights on the right are convenient, and do rotate through CPU, DRAM, VGA, and BOOT on every boot, but mine seemed to get stuck or progressed really slowly (multiple seconds) per item, which concerned me at first. Nothing appeared on my display which was plugged into my video card (I also tried directly into the mobo, but I realize now that might not have worked anyways because Ryzen high end CPUs do not have integrated graphics). After tinkering and rebooting, I found suggestions on Google to try 1 RAM stick, which immediately had an effect and allowed the BIOS to appear. I tweaked the clock speed for RAM and powered off, adding sticks incrementally up until the 3rd stick and each worked still. The 4th stick in slot B1 (I inserted going A2-B2-A1-B1 per the mobo guide) did not work at first, the BIOS held up and the status lights hung on VGA or CPU. Eventually though, after a few reboot attempts, the 4th stick finally worked. I’m not sure if reseating the stick at some point was the fix or if the motherboard just needed quite a few minutes to process all of the hardware, but now it works without issue.tl;dr – wait many minutes for the first time boot to work, even try 1 RAM stick at a time until it registers everything appropriatelyFinally, if you have a TPM chip like I got, be sure it is a 14-1 pin chip, at least TPM 2.0, and enable TPM in the BIOS before attempting to use Bitlocker on it. Once I enabled TPM in BIOS, the motherboard detected the chip on reboot and Windows has successfully used it. Whether Windows behaves with it post-encryption is another matter, as TPMs can be volatile on how effective they behave when they are not built into computers like on laptops.
