The new processor is incredible. The back touch screen is super responsive. HDR 23MP photos are captured almost instantly instead of the 3 second delay the hero 9 had. The 4k 120 FPS looks amazing. I see several overheating reviews on the 10 and would like to state that the camera only gets hot for me when recording at 5k 60 FPS for 25 minutes. Any other resolution the camera has stayed relatively cool, no hotter than previous models. I left the hero 10 outside all night recording a night lapse at 4k while attached to a power bank and the camera was barely warm in the morning (70 degree night). There is also another review on here stating there is no preview from a connected smartphone…, which is also simply not true. If you use the GoPro app (called Quik) and connect the camera the preview window will appear. The 10 is honestly what the 9 should of been. The new “natural” color profile of the 10 is really clear, and reduces noise. One review stated they were having exposure issues, remember, you cant take any camera directly out of the box and expect it to look cinematic in any lighting scenario. It is super easy to make adjustments to settings on the camera. Go on Youtube and look up ISO min and ISO max settings for the GoPro and watch how much your footage improves. The one downside is the 10 burns through batteries, but GoPro users are probably used to that.

The main thing I noticed after upgrading from HERO9 is the faster user interface. Everything is faster, whether it’s navigating the menu items, the Live Preview, transferring video, …According to a teardown article (dissecting the internals) the HERO9 has the Cortex A7 hardware Floating Point processor / CEVA DSP / with Cortex M0 coprocessor, while the new HERO10 has ARM Cortex-A53 processor with 4 cores / ARMV8 running 64bit Linux / dedicated GPU licensed from Takumi. The image sensor is the same Sony IMX677 1/2.3 sensor.Worth the upgrade? For me it was worth it because slow UIs drive me crazy, I like a fast touchscreen.

Good action camera

It’s perfection! Good brand and good quality.Your footage will not look like you see in GoPro’s promotional videos. To get that look it’ll require fancy editing software but watch a few YouTube video tutorials and you’ll be looking good in no time.

The media could not be loaded. I really love this edition of the GoPro cameras! First off, the camera feels very well made and doesn’t feel cheap. It has a little weight to it, but is still very easy to hold and mount as needed. This camera comes with a few accessories which are all GoPro branded and feel strong and sturdy. The case they include is a nice touch, I just which they would have included built in compartments within the case instead of just a “cardboard” tray – this is not a deal breaker by any means, however, just my two cents. The camera itself is very easy to use and operate. The built in, bright touch screen really helps with this and is also very responsive and fairly easy to see in direct sunlight. You can also use the app to change settings as needed, too. The app itself is well designed and also easy to navigate. There are a lot of features built in to the camera and the app and I am really impressed with how it has evolved over the years. The 5K/60 FPS video quality is excellent and honestly, the best I have seen on an action camera so far. There does appear to be an issue with over heating when recording in 5K at 60 FPS after some time, however, this is not something I have run into yet. The camera does get quite warm, but it hasn’t shut itself off yet, at least for me. I am hoping a firmware update could help with this going forward. The quality of the images is excellent and very clear and crisp. Even low light images aren’t terrible on this camera. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not anything like the day time images, however, for an action camera, it’s really not awful. The built in microphones record very good audio for an action camera and is extremely usable for most projects. I have attached a 5K/60FPS video sample and photo samples to this review. The electronic image stabilization is excellent and in my opinion, is better then some gimbals. It does have 2 different settings when it comes to this, normal & super smooth. Both of which work well, however, the super smooth crops in more to make it happen – just something to be aware of.The battery life on this is pretty good and it really depends on your settings that will determine how long it will last. The higher the resolution, the more battery this is going to use. Also, you can adjust what both screens are doing while in use – so this could consume more battery, too, if you have them both on. This camera does not include an external charger and as is, the battery will need to be charged through the camera itself. It doesn’t take to long to charge and can be charged with a power bank while on the go. I recommend having extra batteries just in case. The Hero 9 batteries do work with this camera as well, which is nice. All things considered, I really like this camera and it is a very nice upgrade from previous models. The price isn’t terrible for what this is however, it is way more expensive than most. It really depends on how serious you are about your videos and recording.

Just got my HERO10 Black and the performance out of the box is way better than my HERO9 Black which I love. The touch screen is very responsive and easy to navigate and I really like the screen grab photo quality from my 4K recording. I know it can go up to 5.3K but I find myself in 4K/30 or 4K/60 most often which also makes the battery last longer in the field. The lens seems different too and stayed dry-like in the pool as soon as it was out of the water. Not sure if it is the same as the HERO9 but it seems different and better. Works with the HERO9 dive housing and battery so all good there too. So far, so good!
