Break Your Subwoofer In

A new subwoofer must go through a short but important process of ‘break-in’ before it is run under harsh conditions. The ‘break-in’ process will ensure the subwoofer is able to perform as it has been designed to. This process involves subjecting the subwoofer to no more than low-to-medium volume levels for a number of hours in the enclosure. 3-4 hours is generally sufficient for the subwoofer’s suspension to loosen enough to prevent the voice coil(s) from overheating and causing failure. The break-in period is also effective in extending subwoofer life. Over-driving the woofer before it has been properly broken-in will usually result in premature failure and poor performance.

Cone: Poly Injection

A substance called ‘Polyurethane’ and is categorized as a ‘Polymer’. It is a resilient, flexible and durable manufactured material that can take the place of paint, cotton, rubber, metal or wood in thousands of applications across virtually all fields. It can be hard like fiberglass, squishy like upholstery foam, protective like varnish, bouncy like rubber or sticky like glue. In the specific case of our cones, this material allows for maximum flexibility that produces great sounding speakers lasting you a long time.

Surround: Butyl Rubber

Butyl Rubber is a synthetic (man made) rubber and is valued for its chemical inertness, impermeability to air and the ability to endure or resist exposure to the many types of weather fronts. Butyl rubber has many different applications. Anywhere from Sports equipment to automotive parts, the medical industry and more. We use them for the Surrounds that connect the cone to the basket.

Voice Coil: Aluminum

One of the most abundant elements on earth, Aluminum is remarkable for its low density and for its ability to resist corrosion. It is nonmagnetic (does not have any magnetic properties) and does not easily ignite. This solid material has the ability to perform under stress in both high tension and high compression environments.

  • The CXX12 is designed to work in a medium sized sealed or ported enclosure.
  • Since the woofer has pole-vent, it needs a minimum clearance from the rear wall of the enclosure
  • The dimensions to the enclosures are made to suit the subwoofer’s needs
  • The dimensions have already accounted for the volume displacement of the subwoofer.
  • All dimensions are external.

it was working good, did the whole keeping volume down to break in the speaker. not even a month and the speaker stopped working…. tested a different speaker just to make sure it wasn’t any wiring problem but the other speaker works fine… not sure if this can be covered by warranty? (update) amazon replaced the speaker and its been working perfectly for a few months now!

For $35 a sun, these can’t be beat. The biggest issue with these is everyone thinks they’re a car audio expert when they really have no clue what they’re doing. These get lower than most other woofers in the price category, however the wide surround gives up much needed cone area reducing the overall SPL of these woofers.I’m running three of these at a 1.33ohm final load in a sealed enclosure pushing around 700 watts to all three, or 233 watts each. They’re happiest here, they’ll produce a 27hz tone without exceeding Xmax limits and do so with some authority. These aren’t competition woofers, they’re cheap SVC subs that do the job quite well IF you have the slightest clue as to what you’re doing. Now, the seller was god awful. I’ve verified with fedex, they NEVER sent me my initial order of 3 subs, they only sent one. The Tracking label is still just printed. It took 3 weeks to get them to do anything about the problem and even then they were acting like they were doing me this gigantic favor.

I purchased two of these eventually. I was looking to replace the drivers in two older SLS QG-5000W down-firing subwoofers. These are indoor home theater subs not car subs as I presume is the usual application for these. The original paper cones in them had worn foam and were cracking so they were getting ready to go the electronics recycle place. I figured at this price, these were worth a gamble because the amps in the subs were working fine and I hate to waste things. After installing the first one and getting it tuned, I was very pleasantly surprised. It sounded like it was engineered for the enclosure. Bass was tight and accurate. So I purchased another one for the second sub of the same model I had and it sounds just as good.I’m not looking to blow out the room with these subs. They are mostly used for music listening. So I am looking more for accuracy than boom. These have worked out very well. They saved two perfectly good amps and enclosures from disposal and put them to use on a regular basis.Very pleased with them.

I bought this to replace a Memphis Power Reference that was deteriorating. This sub is lighter, I didn’t have to wire two voice coils, sounds the same (maybe better once broken in) as the $120 sub it replaced, and I got it under $20. Don’t get stuck on the fancy name brands, this thing hits!

I purchased the 12″ 1400 watt version for a dual 12″ sealed box that is sized to fit under the workbench in my garage with each sub in the down firing position. Powered by 150 watt class D amp fed from the stereo sub output. I was very pleased with the packaging. It came well secured inside its box and had plenty of protection from shipping woes.It is a budget subwoofer, however, it does perform really well. I do not plan to give it more than 150 to 250 watts for my needs. It was easy to install and I like the look of the sub. It was not something I liked until I saw it in person. I purchased it anyway as I knew that I would not be able to see it where I had planned to put it. It fires down to concrete and site in the corner of the garage.I am using it instead of a traditional home theater style self powered subwoofer. I was able to build a box that fit my needs and enjoy the project while saving money as well. I included some pics to add to the already well reviewed product. Still going through a modest break in period and it sounded great from the start – with about 25 hours of play time on it now it is sounding better all the time.I would not hesitate to buy again. I knocked it one star for the trim ring. Mine was cracked with only very mild torque on the screw. It happened more than once. I was not over driving them in and I was not using a power hammer either. I just like them snug for a sealed box and the trim ring could be a bit more robust. For some fun I removed the stickers from the magnet and dressed up my box with them.Good luck with your projects!john

Second one of these that I’ve owned. Had one in my last winter beater and it didn’t disappoint. Thought about spending more this time around but went with what works. This thing paired with a boss mono amp is a match made in heaven. Just fantastic sound, deep hard hitting lows and just a rich full sound. You won’t be impressing anyone by the name or it’s looks, but if you want great sound for less than the cost to fill up your car with gas, here you go! The nice thing is, it’s cheap enough that nobody’s gonna want to steal it either and if it blows after 6months I’ll just buy another. Last one went strong for 1year tho no problems.

I just bought a 2004 Corvette (love the body style and flip lights – the last year it had them) and opted for a single sub in the hatch well. I was not looking for a nightclub in my car but something to balance the sound and I was not willing to spend a lot. I selected this sub specifically due to price. I bought the CX122 12′ model. After I built a custom 1.2 cu ft sealed enclosure (that was interesting due to all the angles since I wanted it to sit flat in the hatch pointing up at the glass to spread the sound but my CNC made light work of it) and hooked it up I was shocked! This sub for the money sounds amazing. I am pushing about 250 Watts RMS to it and running it crossed at 80HZ and below. The bass is amazing. I may not have been looking for a nightclub in the car but I got it if I want it. Hard hitting, no distortion and crisp. I am not sure how it is this inexpensive but it is. It even has really nice clamp terminals and very good build quality. They are on point with QC as far as I can tell.If you hook this up and it sounds bad I would wager it has to be something you are doing. Make sure you have the recommended enclosure size and use a dampening material such as poly fill. This model wants a sealed enclosure. I have doubt in it handling 1400 watts but in a reasonable system it will add a serious amount of full and crisp punchy bass. I can feel it at both low and high volume. It appears in the car audio world everyone exaggerates the numbers though. Reasonably it would most likely handle 1/3 of 1400 (400 to 500 watts RMS max).Other than the exaggerated wattage (which almost all manufacturers do) it is a great sub. Will it pass the test for a self-proclaimed audiophile? Probably not (but little does), but it will be adequate for 99% of people who are like me in wanting a good sounding system on a budget. And my RTA tests do not disagree with me. It is truly an amazing budget sub.In conclusion this speaker is everything I had hoped and more. I could not be happier. Some more expensive models may sound arguably better (although in those low frequencies most humans are not able to perceive the difference) but for the money this is hands down a great investment. I am adding one to my wife’s SUV next!!!

I tried this sub after being dissatisfied with my PYLE PLPW12D sub.I connected it to my BOSS PT1000 amp.I just smiled like an idiot when I heard how it captured the bass bends on Ludacris’ “How Low.” I don’t shake neighborhood foundations. I don’t set off USGS seismographs. Lucy Jones can enjoy her retirement. But, I was pretty, pretty satisfied. But, later, I found out it’s freq response is 20hz-200hz.The PYLE freq response is 40hz-2khz.I ended up purchasing a DS18 Pro-Full12.4- it fulfills my auditory needs most accurately. (I listen to talk radio.)

Perfect fit for the money in my DIY bluetooth boombox. I will purchase again. This sub really knocks for the small footprint and small price. I have it paired with four 6.5″ and a 2 channel bluetooth amp board with 100 watts for this sub.Added another. These are pretty good. Remember they are cheap $. So expect them to sound like cheaper sub. I set it up on our Yard Monster in a bass tube and built a stereo out of a tool box. Everything is held in place with magnets. I even added an two 6×9 speakers. All together it rocks out and can’t wait for warmer weather.
